Elephant Orphanage : Pinnawalla

pinnawala1_1Most energizing part of my Sri Lanka trip was to have a  glance of the elephant orphanage situated in Pinnawala, This is the place where many orphaned unweaned wild elephants were given shelter and nursery. Not sure on the count but clearly they were in excess of 70.

Good time to visit there is when they are taken out for bathing. The entire herd together looks extremely pleasing and scary too. I was only hoping that my constant annoying pics doesn’t offend them, resulting in a stampede.

The foreign tickets were on the expensive side, though we escaped paying that much. Thanks to SAARC.

The place also had many stores keeping products made from elephant by-products. Quite productive!!

  1. Wow I would love to visit there, much more ethical than a zoo or an elephant ride!
